Outreach Disability Projects

Accessible Arts and Media is keen to assist other disabled groups, schools, resource centres or others across the region to set up their own projects.

Brigg Film Makers
An example of one of our Outreach projects took place with staff and service users with learning difficulties and disabilities at a Resource Centre in North Lincolnshire in film making. The group learnt how to use a camera, record sound, storyboard, direct and act in their first film “Lipstick, Cards and Water Pistols” – a gangster film.

The project was a huge success, and culminating in a premiere screening at The Base, in Scunthorpe. The film also won 2nd prize at the Leeds Young Filmmakers Festival in 2009.

One of the Resource Centre workers had this to say about the project:

“As this was our first film project I thought would be going at a slower pace and that the students would have trouble keeping up, but I was wrong and the group was as keen as mustard. The project was a great success and the final product was exceptional – it was entertaining and amusing, and far exceeded my expectations.”

A training element was included within the project and funding secured to purchase the necessary equipment so that the group can continue on their own in the future and they have already gone on to make other films!

If you are interested in running a project at your School or Day Centre and would like some advice on how to go about this contact us.
