The Melbourne Centre
The Melbourne Centre was built at the turn of the last century as a Men’s Institute and is still known locally as ‘The Institute’. It is located on Escrick Street in between Fishergate Primary School and the Melbourne Terrace Methodist Church It is home to a number of local community groups including: Melbourne Terrace Parent and Toddler Group, York Gateway for Young People, York Woodcraft Folk and York First Boccia.
We have the following spaces for hire:
Main Hall (19.6 x 7.6m) A flexible space
for sports and dance rehearsals, public meetings and community events
Community Lounge (7.5 x 6.4m) A comfortable space to accommodate smaller meetings, training sessions and workshops
Games Room (8.6 x 6m) With pool table, table football, air hockey and table tennis. Hire Rate for all 3 spaces together: £15 per hr /div>

Other useful information about the Centre:
The building is fully wheelchair accessible.
We have two disabled toilets, one of which has a changing bed and hoist.
There is a drinks making facility , but you will need to bring your own tea and coffee.
Free car parking is available at evenings and weekends only. During the day (term-time only) the car park is used by the neighbouring primary school. If you are a daytime user ample parking is available at the public car park on Kent Street (Q Park) and they are very reasonably priced. Directions can be found on our map and details of prices and opening times can be found on the Q Park website.
Cycle racks are available adjacent to the front door of the Centre.
If you hire the building evenings or weekends you will need to pay an additional care-taking fee of £20.
