NYMAZ Sensory Drop-In

These workshops have been funded by NYMAZ and Jessie’s Fund to give young people with a range of disabilities and complex needs the opportunity to make music using a range of accessible technology.

This technology allows users to play music via a range of different movements, and can be configured to suit the individual – meaning that all young people can play an equal part in the music making, whatever their individual needs and abilities.

As opposed to a traditional workshop setting, the Drop-In has a much more flexible structure, allowing the young people and their support worker an opportunity to work together to explore the environment, and find activities they both enjoy - and through the experience having fun and developing their relationship. Each session is tailored to suit the individual needs of the participants, which can either be run as individual or group sessions

Technology / activities include:
  • Apollo Ensemble (by pressing a switch you can trigger a sound, image or video)
  • Soundbeam (by moving in front of the beam you can play music and trigger images)
  • G Force (by making a sound into the microphone you can change pictures)
  • Vibroacoustic Soundbox/ beanbag (by sitting/ lying on the box or beanbag you can feel the vibrations of music through your body)

Such a wide selection of stimuli ensures that there will always be something to suit everyone - there are chillout areas, but also interactive areas; areas where people can work together, but also areas where they can be by themselves. The sensory drop in offers a completely unique combination of visual, auditory, tactile and vibroacoustic stimuli, which means that people can benefit from the experience whatever their interests, abilities or needs.
Who can attend?
  • Children and young people with any/any combinations of the conditions below:
