Outreach youth projects
Accessible Arts and Media is keen to assist youth groups, schools or other groups across the region to set up their own arts and media projects.
Musical Monuments
Musical Monuments brings young people from mainstream schools together with young people from SEN schools to create musical pieces based on one of North Yorkshire’s iconic Monuments. The project is run in partnership with the North Yorkshire Youth Music Action Zone (NYMAZ), North Yorkshire Business & Education Partnership (NYBEP) and Amicus.
Our first project took place at Beningbrough Hall summer 2008, where young
people living in Ryedale and Hambleton had an opportunity to create, perform
and record their own music using accessible music technology. Local composer
and disabled apprentice from the SoundWeavers supported the young people
in their use of music technology.
The project received extremely positive feedback from everyone involved – Clare Fletcher from Beningbrough Hall had this to say:

“The project combined really new, modern technology
with artwork which is over 300 years old in some cases. This combination
of old and new brought the past to life in a new way for the kids and
for our visiting public. Well done on an excellent project engaging
young people.”
The second Musical Monuments was based at the
Ripon Museums, and this was a day long project for young people living
in and around Ripon in October 2008 to experience singing & signing
and accessible music technology. Much of the day was led by disabled apprentices
from Hands & Voices and the SoundWeavers. If you would like to find
out future events, or the Musical Monuments programme please contact
